The Most Beautiful Carpets in 2017’s Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute has announced their annual Color of the Year for 2017: Greenery. Pantone is best known for its Pantone Matching System, which is a proprietary color space commonly used in such industries as printing, paint, fabric, and plastics. Every year, Pantone announces a Color of the Year, which Pantone says is “a symbolic color selection, a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” Pantone describes Greenery as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, puts it this way: Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amide a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose. Here are some of our favorite carpets featuring this trendy and revitalizing color.

This striking work of art showcases a unique all-over pattern of stylized flowers set on a rich green background. The outlines frame a simple, delicate floral motif. Dreamlike shades of green, red, soft orange, light blue and neutrals define this ethereal Oushak carpet. Symmetry is evident in every fine detail, forming a design rich in symbolism and a striking work of art steeped in geometric grace. Measures: 12’2 x 14’8

Produced in mid-20th century Turkey, this vintage Oushak is characterized by a comely and highly representative Oushak composition. The carpet beautifully communicates the finer strengths of Oushak rug-weaving. Building on traditional designs, this marvelous vintage Turkish rug features a repeating floral design in the central field framed by a border of geometric motifs.
