Antique Turkish rugs have historically been woven in Central & Western Anatolia since the early years of the Seljuk Dynasty, which reigned from the 11th to the mid-13th Centuries. Some the most magnificent Turkish rug weaving originated from this era. The Ottoman Empire reigned after the Seljuk Dynasty and lasted into the early part of the 20th Century. During the Seljuk Dynasty and the early years of the Ottoman Empire, many areas such as Konya, Oushak, Bergama, and Melas made small carpets that can be seen in museums around the world today.

In the 15th Century, weaving centers were established in the city of Oushak. Many of the great Turkish carpet masterpieces from the 15th to the 17th Centuries are rugs made in the city of Oushak. Less is known about carpet productions in the 18th and early 19th Centuries, but Oushak reemerged as a major center for rug making in the late 19th Century with its production of decorative carpets & rugs. At this time, Europeans began designing carpets to align with certain décor, and this new wave of carpet production transformed traditional and exotic Turkish designs. The texture of these carpets was more relaxed and color combinations became much more diversified. Without compromising the appeal to Western consumers, weavers in Oushak managed to create the most desirable carpets with bold Mediterranean-influenced colors and chic pastels. These rugs introduced subtle elegance that even today is unique to rugs made in Oushak.

Antique Turkish Oushak carpets made in the late 19th Century and in the early part of 20th Century are highly desirable as decorative pieces. Oushak rugs from Turkey were made with central medallion designs and patterns of smaller, all-over medallions or scattered sprays of vine scrolls and palmettes. The antique Turkish Oushak rugs are notable for the grand, monumental scale of their designs and they often have a subdued palette in soft apricot and golden saffron tones. Turkish Oushak rugs' pleasant qualities are enhanced by their particularly soft and lustrous wool.

Antique Decorative Turkish and Oushak carpets have become the rugs of choice for many of the top interior designers in the world. Oushak rugs, for the most part, are not high-knot-count carpets; however, this enables the makers of Oushak rugs to create larger-scale patterns with more open space. Antique Reproduction Oushak carpets are also extremely desirable as demand for quality antique Oushaks have driven their prices higher. The exceptional quality of new Oushak carpets make them a perfect tool for decoration as they offer a variety of color palettes and traditional designs.

Today, Decorative Turkish rugs follow the traditions set in the late 19th Century, but they have been updated for designer markets and decorator demands. Fine Antique Reproduction Oushaks are characterized by their unique style, harmony, balance, and unpredictable color palette. We believe that because Antique Reproduction Oushaks are a central part of any décor, they should maintain their integrity and sense of timelessness. These objectives can only be achieved by maintaining high quality standards.

As the popularity of Oushak rugs have risen, the name "Oushak" has been used as a generic style for rugs made in other countries, such as India, Pakistan, China, etc. In reality, only the rugs made in the Oushak region should bear that name.
