Antique Persian two-panel Qashqai rug with medallion design in orange and brown, rug 10-90511, country of origin / type: Iran / Qashqai, circa 1880
The Qashgai nomads are found in the Fars province in southwest Iran. They move twice a year, between the winter pasture near the Persian Gulf and the summer pasture up in the Zagros mountains where it is much cooler. Their carpets have a typical red-brown ground color, and the patterns are recalled from memory. This particular later 19th century antique Qashgai carpet features a central medallion design with various sub-geometric elements throughout. The entirety of the main piece is surrounded by a multi-tiered border of complementary figures, and joined to another smaller carpet of complementary design.
Measures: 2' x 3'.
