Antique Decorative Persian |
Decorative Persian rugs in large were first introduced in the third and Fourth quarter of 19 Century. Prior to this period hand knotted rug were made to beautify the palaces and castles of royalties and aristocrats. Europeans were familiar with the art of rug making in Persia and imported hand knotted rugs since the early part of 16th century. In early 16th century with the rise of Safavieh dynasty, whom were deeply passionate about Persian art, rug designers were commissioned to create new and very intricate designs using curvilinear motifs. The new motifs made new ways to create the magnificent master pieces of Safavieh dynasty in Iran. In a sense this period of history was the most flourishing time in the history of Persian rugs. These designs were made and copied for the next three centuries until another great era began that changed the art of rug making to a totally different dimension.
